SMZ TMP 800mg/160mg Tablets [500ct]
SMZ TMP is an multi-species antibiotic for treatment of bacterial and protozoal infections. It is an antibiotic-sulfa combination used to treat a wide range of infections in horses, dogs, cats, and other species of animals. SMZ TMP tablets may be used to treat bacterial and protozoal infections.
Alone, sulfonamides are bacteriostatic agents and trimethoprim is bactericidal, but when used in combination, the potentiated sulfas are bactericidal. SMZ with TMP has fairly broad spectrum of activity, such as gram-positive bacteria including most streptococci, many strains of staphylococcus, and Nocardia. Many gram-negative organisms of the family Enterobacteriaceae are susceptible to the potentiated sulfas. Some protozoa (Pneumocystis carinii, Coccidia, and Toxoplasma) are also inhibited by the combination.
Not for use in pregnant or lactating animals (female animals nursing their young) unless benefits outweigh the risks. Not for use in animals with dehydration; bladder or kidney stones; or severe liver or kidney disease.
